Green Around the Gills

Ian Warner, Sat 21st Jun ’08

Here’s a nice piece of old news which did the rounds in late May, concerning the façade of a luxury department store in Berlin, a famous brand of fashionable sports and leisurewear, and a graffiti artist.
In honor of Lacoste’s 75th birthday, KaDeWe (Berlin’s answer to Harrods) invited the fashion label to celebrate in its department [...]

Cryptic Deunglish

Karen Eliot, Fri 25th May ’07

Curious Caption
Matthias sent me this photo, taken in Berlin’s Neuköln district. I didn’t understand it until he told me to read it as a German would, with no regard for the spelling. What comes out is a weird Anglo-Deutsch hybrid. It says:

Kinetic Anti-Graffiti Mural

Karen Eliot, Sun 25th Feb ’07

In December of last year I commented on the graffiti-patch phenomenon, where tags on a building were ‘de-erased’ with a quick roll of grey paint. The word on the SLAB grapevine is that this wasn’t the work of some quick-on-the-draw janitor, but of another graffiti artist.
Some weeks after my observation I came across an issue [...]

Graffiti Patches

Karen Eliot, Thu 14th Dec ’06

There are many ways of fighting that malignant scourge of evil known as graffiti. One way is to keep having your walls painted beige and pretend it doesn’t exist, which is a dull-witted and wholy provincial response. The other way is to meet the problem face-on, as in this ballsy example:

Patch ‘em up
Just get yourself [...]
