Difficult to tell whether this is a prank, or a serious attempt to foil would-be bicycle thieves. Or even a failed theft attempt: just a few centimeters more and the bike would be free of its pole.

This year’s winter fair and Christmas market on Unter den Linden in Berlin is not only a lot larger than last year’s (it even spills out onto the street on one side, diverting traffic around an interesting chicane), but it also fits in beautifully with the gutted remnants of the old Palace of the Republic.
