Cryptic Deunglish

Curious Caption

Matthias sent me this photo, taken in Berlin’s Neuköln district. I didn’t understand it until he told me to read it as a German would, with no regard for the spelling. What comes out is a weird Anglo-Deutsch hybrid. It says:

“Ei (I) luw (love) juh (you), Prinzessin (Princess) Keulchen (little leg of lamb).”

Well, as terms of endearment go “Princess Little Leg of Lamb” has to score points for originality: I guess German’s do love their meat. Let’s hope “Keulchen” was suitably delighted by this very public display of affection.

The weird Anglo-Deutsch hybrid is even more complex as:
“EI” the german term for “EGG” and “LAW” the english term for “GESETZ”
in their combination may suggest more than just a delightning display of affection, but – who knows – some eggolawtionary way of demanding contraception ?

I like the fact that the paint is drizzling, as if the painter has done it in a hurry, eager to go off and spray some more homages to his love. When you speak it to yourself it sounds like a black accent from the American south.
