Mind the Gap

Germany’s Spiegel Online has a very interesting series of reports about the world’s most famous underground train networks. Entitled Mind the Gap, they have so far reported on Moscow, London, Berlin, New York, Tokyo, and most recently, Paris.

The articles explore this most ubiquitous form of urban architecture, its mythologies, its cultural signifiers, its sheer weight of “did you know” factoids. Sarin gas attacks, catastrophic infernos, crime, leaky tunnels and the demands of serving 7.8 million people per day.
